Το 2026 δεν είναι απλώς ένα ακόμη έτος για τους Συριανούς. Είναι το επετειακό έτος των 200 ετών από την ονοματοθεσία και την ίδρυση της Ερμούπολης, το 1826, και τη γέννηση της πόλης του Κερδώου και Λόγιου Ερμή. Στη συλλογική μας μνήμη, η Ερμούπολη ταυτίζεται με τη νεοκλασική της αρχιτεκτονική, τις τέχνες και τα γράμματα, τη ναυτιλία και το εμπόριο. Πρόσφυγες από τη Σμύρνη, τις Κυδωνίες, τη Χίο, τα Ψαρά την Κάσο και άλλα μέρη της Πατρίδας μας, με όραμα και τεχνογνωσία, δημιούργησαν μια πόλη-θαύμα.
Τα 200 χρόνια της Ερμούπολης αξίζει να γιορταστούν με δράσεις που τιμούν την ιστορία της και ταυτόχρονα αναδεικνύουν μια σύγχρονη ταυτότητα: εκθέσεις, συναυλίες, φεστιβάλ, προβολές, ημερίδες, ομιλίες και αφιερώματα.

The year 2026 is not simply another milestone for the citizens of Syros. It marks the bicentenary of the naming and founding of Hermoupolis in 1826 — the birth of a city dedicated to Hermes, patron of commerce and eloquence. In the collective memory, Hermoupolis stands as a symbol of neoclassical elegance, intellectual vitality, and a long-standing tradition in maritime trade and enterprise.
Refugees from Smyrna, Kydonies, Chios, Psara, Kasos and other regions of the Greek world arrived here carrying knowledge, skill andambition. From their efforts emerged a city of remarkable dynamism –a place where resilience was transformed into prosperity.
This bicentenary offers a meaningful opportunity not only to honor the past, but also to reflect on the city’s evolving identity. Through exhibitions, performances, festivals, screenings, conferences, and scholarly events, Hermoupolis reveals both its historical depth and its contemporary cultural presence.
